Campervan seller's checklist

A clear listing helps buyers understand the build, judge the condition, and decide whether your van fits their life. Gather these details before you publish.

1. Get the van's facts together

Chassis and mileage. Year, make, model, wheelbase, roof height, drivetrain, and current odometer reading.
Build history. Who converted it, when, and what has changed since. Separate shop work, your work, and inherited work.
Layout and capacity. Bed dimensions, standing height, storage, and how many people it sleeps. State travel seating separately from sleeping capacity.
Location and availability. City/state, when the van can be viewed, and your preferred contact method.

2. Describe the conversion precisely

Electrical system. Battery chemistry, capacity and voltage, solar watts, inverter rating, shore power, and alternator charging. Confirm specs from labels or records.
Water and bathroom. Fresh/gray tank capacities with units, sink, hot water, toilet type, and indoor/outdoor shower.
Heating and cooling. Heater type, ventilation, and camper A/C. Distinguish dash A/C from cabin cooling and say which systems require shore power.
Kitchen and included equipment. Cooktop/fuel, fridge, and major accessories. Identify removable gear, batteries, or furnishings that are not included.

3. Be specific about condition

Service records. Gather maintenance history, recent repairs, tire information, and upcoming work you know about.
Known issues. Describe rust, leaks, damage, mechanical problems, unfinished work, and non-working systems. Include photos where useful.
Working versus unverified. Check systems through their normal controls. Describe what works, what doesn't, and what you haven't tested; don't open or modify systems to check this box.
Build records. Gather manuals, wiring/plumbing diagrams, and install records you have. Remove personal information from any copies you share.

4. Photograph the whole van

Exterior and cab. Photograph all sides, the roof when safely visible, cab, and odometer in clear light.
Layout, not just details. Show the full interior from both directions, the bed, seating, kitchen, bathroom, and storage access.
Systems and workmanship. Show accessible equipment labels, power controls, water storage, and representative finishes. Avoid showing private documents.
Current, honest photos. Include wear and known defects. Use photos of this van as it is today, not stock images or an earlier unfinished/undamaged version.

5. Set an asking price you can explain

Useful comparables. Save similar custom builds and note their year, mileage, condition, equipment, and asking price. Count cross-posted vans once.
Market evidence, not receipts. Explain your price using comparable vans and meaningful differences, not simply the original build cost.
Your selling priorities. Choose an asking price, decide your private negotiation range, and consider how soon you want to sell. Asking prices are not confirmed sale prices.
Consistent listing details. Check price, mileage, specs, and included equipment across every marketplace. Keep the same core facts when tailoring the description.

6. Prepare for inquiries and viewings

Answers ready. Prepare short answers about why you're selling, service history, build ownership, known issues, and what is included.
Viewing plan. Pick an appropriate meeting location, make the van accessible, and prepare a normal-use demonstration of its working systems.
Inspection information. Have relevant records available for a serious buyer or their independent inspector. Don't substitute a feature list for an inspection.
A simple follow-up record. Note inquiries, viewings, offers, and repeated questions. Use that feedback to improve the listing or revisit the price.
